What can I say? It’s another Drizzt novel so of course it’s gonna be packed with action and adventure. This book reintroduces the Drow(dark elves) back into the mix after Drizzt and his companions go through their journey from Icewind Dale, all the way down to Mithral Hall and establish they home there. Drizzt is of course faced with difficult decisions and tested relentlessly by arch nemesis and some unexpected family. All and all it’s a fun book and really delivers the action in this one.

This is not my first time reading the Drizzt series but the adventures of the drow elf and his companions has enraptured me since I was a young man. I have read this series many times over my 2 1/2 decades of life and I never tire of the story itself. It is so masterfully written that I can actually see this book playing out in my head as if on a television screen and I get so caught up in the battles that to this day I still cheer out loud when Artemis is foiled again or one of the gang puts down a ferocious monster... If I had to recommend any series in my life it would be this one as not only is it a great story it is also a very creative way of teaching Honor, Integrity, Strength and the belief that anything is possible if you have the heart to go for it.

The Legacy marks Drizzt's return to the underworld and recontact with the Drow. There is a great deal of fighting and maneuvering in the tunnels and caverns between Mithral Hall and Menzoberranzan and the book winds up 2 or 3 of the threads in the plot that have been developed so far.

Is the barbarian at such an early age actually lost to the Companions of the Hall & is Ontari finally dead? Can Regis finally rest knowing that he has at long last seen the last of him. What lies in their future. Will Drizzt finally win Catti-Bri's love?

Excellent Fantasy Novel (Excellent Series! One of the best!). Good for all ages. The adult content is there, but in a respectful way that would be mostly unnoticed by children unless they had the imagination to fill in the gaps already. The action is excellent. The story and characters are deep. The lessons are spectacular. Just great. The Legend of Drizzt Books I through VI are obviously finding their rythm, but VII and beyond are great. Especially VII (The Legacy).

Being the seventh book in the series I was not expecting as many earth shattering moments as I found in this one. There is a pace that develops in a series where you know the main heroes will face danger but will some how make it through relatively unscathed in the end. R. A. Salvatore reveals that is not the case for Drittz and his friends that every dangerous turn they face could be their last.

Thanks to my friend Sammy from a long time ago when I was in high school for giving me this book series to read. I hated reading because it always reminded me of school, but this book series really captured my attention and the possibility of imagination. I was so enamored by this series that I bought the entire collection at the time it was only like 12 books and read them continuously until the next book came out. I had to have read these at least 5 times already, but since the story is so good and the series is so long that by the time I get to reading the first book again it almost seems new to me, or at the very least watching an old favorite movie in my mind.

Like always, Salvatore delivers another great tale, this one a little darker than previous ones. There is a huge surprise in the book that I did not see coming, and expertly sets up some really amazing character development for future books.

Lo compré hoy a las 10am, lo termine hoy a la 1pm. Volveré a leerlo.

I had previously found o a commented copy of this book what I found extremely boring. Then I found this copy and I loved it as it makes a lot easier to follow the author ideas whithout third party opinions. Advise you find here is useful for most any areas of one's life.

Absolutamente recomendable.Se puede terminar en una misma tarde.

but gives better understanding. So, with the two, you get a good picture of how important it is to understanding how the horse's body works. Now, if only people would understand that horses are NOT human and don't learn like humans do. I hear again and again folks attributing human traits to horses, such as envy, hate, scheming mischief, etc. Such gross misinterpretations don't help in the training/riding arena!

Finally someone who comes with evidence that modern dressage has gone off track, and NOT for the good of the horse...Dr. Heuschmann (veterinarian)explains the anatomy of the horse and compares classical dressage with modern dressage. He shows how common exercises in modern dressage (even often seen on high competition level!)are not only stressful for the horse's body, but will even damage the horse if trained this way for longer period...Since there are a lot wrong ideas in the dressage world nowadays (also in horse sports that have their basics in dressage) this book is not only helpful for riders butVERY helpful for the key figures in our sports: judges, trainers, instructors...And not only beginners but MOSTLY experienced horse people...are you brave enough to question yourself??

Just bought my second copy to give to a friend. A well written book with great pictures. A must must read for every horseback rider. Dressage, reining, barrel racing, jumping... doesn't matter!

This book gives insightful information on how the horse is impacted by the rider/ training it receives. The author who rode to the highest levels, passed the difficult German instructor certification prior to becoming a veterinarian was motivated to find out why horses were becoming unsound. This book explains his findings.

For a good few years a slow but noticeable aversion has spread over certain "modern" training methods. What is this about? Why? "Modern" usually means "surpassed by ancient". "Classical" dressage therefore, may prompt associations with baroque riding, the Wiener Hofreitschule and definitely not with todays mainstream equestrian sport. Nothing could be further from the truth, is what this book clearly advocates.Indeed we have swerved a long way from patient, animal friendly expectations of our horses on whom we should feel priveleged of mounting and enjoying every step of a well planned and executed training programme. I first came into contact with the author, a leading German equine veterinary doctor, at a convention in Ireland, where I saw first hand how the amazing 3D animations of the horse's muscoskeletal system would illustrate it's natural and man-induced unnatural movement as discussed on the DVD. The result is amazing and should ideally be seen in conjunction with the book. At last a bright light is shed on the discussions about dressage training methods, the foundation of all equestrian disciplines. A discussion that really shouldn't be "A Tug of War", let alone subject of a modern training principle.Mind you all: the book and DVD are not amusing at all. Instead, they clearly and clinically illustrate todays alarming techniques and appalling performance and clinical results that have found their way into equestrianism and are supposed to rapidly train horses towards an outline that dressage judges seem to prefer and admire, having little eye for the resulting clear irregularities in the horse's balance and gaits. The sheer fact that this "modern" way of riding has become more of a rule than an exception, makes it a method and is indeed widely adopted, to the dismay of equine veterinary author Gerd Heuschmann.Perhaps, just maybe, the world's best can practice these training methods safely. But the vast majority of riders and trainers copies them, unwillingly without empathy, without patience and with little or no understanding, repeatedly damaging horses limbs and spine, expecting them to reach a very high level of competence in dressage at an age of only five or just over. Today it is about the quick resale value of the horse, about the glory of the rider, quick fixes seemingly supported by "modern" training techniques. Low and round carriage of the horse's neck and head during training are seen as proof of submission and an advanced level of competence. Wide spread stupidity and ignorance of riders and trainers and on many occasions a staggering incompetence of dressage judges around the globe is causing massive and wide spread harm to horses' physique. I see it live, every day, with my own eyes. It is heart wrenching. If horses could speak, there wouldn't be so many "mysterious" lamenesses. If horses could speak they would tell us it's a rider induced tension in their back that makes them walk choppy, not an ailment located in the lower leg. Or indeed pain in a limb caused by a forced way of going. Never mind expensive scientifically proven joint supplements, state-of-the art stable and field blankets, flashy bridleware, designer clothes and impeccably white training wraps. Start thinking all over again: If horses could speak, they would shout at us as by now we are wearing them out prematurely. But they don't.A radical change in expectations versus time has to be readopted, as used to generally be the case only half a century ago and as it still is commonsense among a few trainers and renowned equestrian centres. A durable result and continuous health, performance and happiness of a horse can only be realised by reevaluating our training, judging methods and understanding of quality of the horses' gaits. All persons involved in dressage and basic flatwork training, riding and judging should be aware of the thorough scientific evidence that is so clearly explained in the book and shown on the DVD. The equestrian world is very much on the wrong track not having signalled and halted these wide spread practices, bar some individuals and organisations. Horses would have told us that a long time ago. If they could speak. Now this invaluable pair of a book and DVD speaks for them, and for those early warriors for the good cause, who have had trouble getting their message across to the equestrian community which is mostly not aware of how far todays training techniques have swerved away from the patient, efficient and empathic "classical" dressage.Without such a clear description of the balance, biomechanics and "modern" training methods, horses seem to be doomed to let us carry on without us understanding basic principles that are so graphically illustrated in this valuable pair of a book and a DVD. Watch, read, act and spread the word and we will be worth the glory we work towards. The glory of the combined performance of truly good training and the amazing willingness and ability of our horses.Worth five stars as six are not an option.Accompanying DVD strongly recommended: DVD: If Horses Could Speak: How Incorrect "Modern" Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health

I rode huntseat/foxhunt for twenty-some years as a young adult. At age 60, retirement allowed me to pick it up again. However, soon after I came to a serious decision point whether to continue riding. Regardless of the horse I rode, they tripped, misbehaved or were dull to the aids. It was shortly after that I met a wonderful horse physio-therapist/dressage instructor who analyzed two of my horses. A long story short, she pointed out aspects of my riding which were impacting the horse. My riding immediately improved. No more tripping and naughtiness; no more setting my horse up to ignore the aids. I purchased this book as the result of following up on some of the points she made. I took it to the barn and she recognized it on sight, exclaiming "An excellent book, too bad more instructors don't read it! I used these principles with you and your horses." So, two reviews in one; one from the practioner and one from the student. Buy it, your horse will love you for it.

Excellent book - I have passed this one around to my friends and my trainer, all enjoyed it and felt like it really gets a lot of information across, clearly and concisely. A great read for those who want to learn about dressage and believe that short cuts are not the best way to achieve success in training.

I have always cringed when I heard of or seen horses ridden under the influence of rollkur, but never had a scientific basis for that distaste. Now I do, and I can use the author's drawings and discussion of anatomy to back up my aversion. This book is a benefit to anyone trying to evaluate their training method: rather than comparing one trainer's word to another's, you have the actual facts to make your decision. Everyone should have this book in their horsemanship library. And listen to it.

THE AWEN ALONE was a really thoughtful little book about solitary druidism. I really enjoyed it. Perhaps what struck me most (besides the author's careful and elegant tone) was that she is committed not only to helping the environment, but other people. She encourages a conscientious lifestyle that I so rarely see in Pagan books these days (which are self-indulgent to the point of narcissism anymore). As an introduction piece, there is the expected chapters on both ritual and holy days that are part of every pagan book, but THE AWEN ALONE provides enough original, thoughtful material that the experienced pagan shouldn't mind. This was a great introduction to druidism, and it made me curious to explore the faith further. This was a truly successful entry into the Pagan Portal series, and I hope to read more from Joanna van der Hoeven in the future.

I am deeply appreciative of Joanna van der Hoeven's book. After reading a great deal on line about Druidry, I wanted to learn more. I was drawn to this book because (a) the concept of Awen is what most attracts me to the Druid path over other branches of paganism, and (b) I have a personal aversion to organized religion and wanted the opportunity to explore alone rather than depending on finding a group that may or may not align with what I want out of this experience. At first I was a little put off by the introduction in which the author describes a regular day for her which felt wholly removed from the realities of my life. But as I continued to read, I found that van der Hoeven gives incredible space for following Druidry according to the realities of one's life and the parts that may or may not resonate with an individual. She offers practices as tools instead of requirements, while still specifying what might be considered the identifying characteristics of Druidry. It was very much what I'd hoped to find and is refreshingly different from another text on solitary Druidry (a much more prescriptive, formal, and theistic take on Druidry than Awen Alone presents) that I am currently reading. I'd recommend this book to people who, like me, shy away from organized religion and want the freedom to explore whatever resonates with you. The only drawback for me is that I wanted more text. It seemed as though the surface of Druidry was only being brushed.

I gave this book 5 stars simply for the fact that it is so genuinely free of preaching and dogma and focuses so heavily on what you make of druidry in itself. My only regret while reading this was that it eventually ended, and I was left with an unusual desire to live as the author does. I hope to one day meet Joanna van der Hoeven and shake her hand, perhaps discuss druidry in depth. Overall, if I could have given the book 10 stars, or 100 I would have. But sadly, there were only 5, hehe

The Awen Alone is a beautiful and exemplary tool-set for those looking to practice Druidry on their own or researching the path. As with most "beginner" books, this book covers many of the topics you'd expect to see. There is a bit about the history of Druids, the Eight-fold Year, Gods/Divinity, Ancestors, and how the Earth plays a part in the path. All of this information is well researched and written. A complete novice will find it to be quite comprehensive. There are even some tidbits or metaphors that could prove to be most useful to someone who has been walking Druidry for many years. But really, this book shines in all the parts that go beyond giving out standard information. The author does a wonderful job opening doors to the many ways one might enrich their Druid path without ever pushing readers to do, think, or feel a particular way about something. I especially enjoyed the way ethics were addressed. Ethics did not have its own chapter or specific set of rules. Instead, there were delicious moments that helped to reinforce the tenants of Druidry that guide a person to live a truthful and honorable life.I've come away from reading this book feeling a bit more inspired about my path and am eagerly going to put some of its ideas into practice!

It took a while to arrive, however it was in perfect condition when it did. This is my first time reading this author. She is very down to earth, and sensible. I really enjoyed this book, and I will be ordering another of her books shortly. If you are a solitary practitioner like myself, I reccomend giving this book a try.

Good little book for solo practice. I liked the focus on how to be a modern Druid and the practical aspects of meditations and prayers included. The historical detail was also very well written and interesting. I think I will return to this book to help inform my practice.

I felt this was a good guide to following a solitary practice of Druidry. There was no preachiness or pushiness in this, like I'd encountered in other books. In my opinion, Joanna Van Der Hoeven presented great guidelines for forging a path and worshipping the way one wants. No two people can experience their spirituality the same; the author takes this into account. I will be using this book as a guide as I continue to learn more.

Well written with good allusions to and descriptions of nature. Good loose guide for people who do not want to follow a formal or someone else's way of Druidry.
