#19,036 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
In books one and two the author built a great world, even if he did make the MC a bit op. However he starts book three (after the prologue) with the MC waking in the hospital with no knowledge of what happened in the first two books, but full instinctual use of the powers he'd built up. His father and the family of the girl he's saved are on "full alert" because of things that happened in the two years between book 2 and 3, and the girl he saved specifically says she remembers everything they did to her on that other world, and uses her psychic abilities to speak in secret.... Yet nobody can connect the "hidden game server" on the "dark web" with the company somehow created the exact same game that they had lured people into a trap with preciously, and Julia who says she remembers the dominion can't put two and two together even though she would be best suited to adding them up. Nobody tied in the super selective game trail from the first book which was to kidnap the best candidates to a "secret hidden server you can only find from a link on reddit" where there's stories of people who connect dying online (and they know foe a fact the stories are true because they researched them) .As of writing this review only half way through this book, and I've actually had to make myself sit down and read it at least an hour a day for the last three days. If this was the first in the series, I'd already have removed it from my library and would never ready another from this author. It's that bad. The first two were good, I don't know what happened and why the author is so poorly pushing a world wide amnesia/obtuessness it was fine in the first chapter for his amnesia but a quick update by friends or family could have cued him (and the reader if they had skipped the first two) on most of what had happened and they could have moved on. But the author continues to SHOVE the total idiocy and mental deficiencies of what are supposed to be highly intelligent people in the readers face.I liked most of the characters in the first two books. So far I hate every single one of the characters in the third book, except one and she's basically the only person that wasnt in the first two books so far, but for some reason she has tons of knowledge she shouldn't know yet but that's better then being a mobile brainless vegetable who can beat everyone with his l33t skills.Unless the author writes a few more in this series you can basically stop at book two since it seems the author only wrote this because the first two were popular so he wrote something to go after the ending just to sell more books.
Another great story in the series! I enjoyed the main story line and the side stories as well. The story continues to engage and entertain, and I recommend it heartily!
I can't wrap my head around the writing style. Most of the story is told in a wordy dialogue that explains aspects of the world, character background, and such, in a disjointed, repetitive, or forced way. All which breaks the immersion more and more, leaving me to slog through the drudgery or scan ahead in an effort to streamline the story.
I did not like that this book took a step back with the main character forgetting. I t would not be that bad if it was not most of the book. Just felt like a waste of time overall and it caused the book to move slow. I really struggled to finished this book. I hope the next one will pick things back up.
I really liked this book can't wait to see where the next book takes the story I will definitely read the next book
Gripping! Hard to put down!
I loved the first two books in the series so I was greatly disappointed that the main plot device for this story was amnesia. This robs Val of some of his powers and the pointed little reminders the book gives that he could do this or that, if only he could remember, served only to irritate. And of course he regains his memory just in time for the cliffhanger.Basically you can skip this one and read the sequel without having missed too much.
Like many others, I was disappointed with this entry in the series. Since the mc basically has amnesia for most of the book, much of it is spent backtracking and 'learning' things we already know. The character hardly develops during the story, the cloak and dagger first part is basically left untouched through the story, we're given a bad guy at the end with essentially no foreshadowing or even prior introduction to them, and the twist ending is so much of a twist that, really, it should have been the whole point of the book, rather than something sprung upon us out of almost nowhere (with one clue given in all three books). This book felt like the author didn't know where he was going and tried to tie several storylines together...kind of poorly.Honestly, you could skip to about the last third of the book and you wouldn't miss anything important except some minor character intros. The rest is just fluff and doesn't impact the ending, the story arc, or anything else in any way.
