Review

Praise for The Forgotten Soldier“Taylor has become one of the very best writers of thrillers with a military and special-ops background. His consistency and his ability to mirror headline news with relevant, engrossing narratives are uncanny, and this exploration of the human side of war should quickly be recognized as one of Taylor’s best efforts. Comparisons to Vince Flynn and Brad Thor are expected and not inaccurate, but Taylor is now in a class by himself.”—Booklist (starred review)“Slick, exciting action and credible complexity are the hallmarks of Taylor’s high-caliber thrillers, and this latest installment does not disappoint.”—Library Journal“Brad Taylor...takes his considerable talents to a new level with The Forgotten Soldier....It’s one thing to write great action scenes, quite another to bring us into the actual mindset of the special ops world he knows so well.”—Providence Journal“Taylor delivers the latest addition to his growing body of convincing plots...he spins a tale that could easily have been lifted from our current sociopolitical reality....A realistic page-turner that fills a need for thrills while questioning the complicated process of statecraft.”—Kirkus Reviews“Terrific stuff, twistier than usual and just as action packed.”—Sullivan County Democrat More Praise for Brad Taylor and the Pike Logan series “Pike ranks right up there with Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and Jack Bauer.”—John Lescroart, New York Times bestselling author “Fresh plot, great action and Taylor clearly knows what he is writing about....When it comes to tactics and hardware he is spot on.”—Vince Flynn, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Logan is a tough, appealing hero you’re sure to root for.”—Joseph Finder, New York Times bestselling author “[Pike Logan is a] feisty, devil-may-care hero.”—Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author“Few authors write about espionage, terrorism, and clandestine hit squads as well as Taylor does.”—Houston Press “Action packed....Those who prize authentic military action will be rewarded.”—Publishers Weekly

I've always loved the Pike Logan books, but this one really struck a nerve with me. It seemed a lot more introspective and emotional than previous books, really immersing itself into the theory of vengeance and retribution. As Mr Spock once famously said "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few", but how many of us could live with that tenet when someone they love is ripped away.Guy George is a Taskforce operator who is confronted with that question when his brother is killed on a mission in Afghanistan. It's a question Pike has had to answer in earlier books after the deaths of his family, and he is called on to try and talk Guy down from his mission and bring him in. The book takes a deeper look into the charter of the Taskforce and what they do, the legalities (and illegalities) of their missions, and the costs to their souls. Still interspersed with the trademark humour and banter we have come to expect from Brad Taylor, this is a great story and should not be missed.

This newest adventure of Pike Logan and the Taskforce gets into the hard reality and residual affects of the worst part of combat, losing one of your own. The struggle in the mind of an Operator between the mission his government has given him and their own sense of right and wrong is explored in great depth here and it leaves you with an even greater respect for the Taskforce members. While going through the box of personal effects from his brother, recently killed in Afghanistan, Guy George, a seasoned Taskforce operator, discovers that there might be more to the story of his brother's death than the official story. Slowly slipping into the dark side, Guy goes rogue to get the truth and avenge his brother's death. The Taskforce is sent to stop him, and it's not easy to track one of your own who knows all the tricks of the trade. Especially when the Secretary of State has himself become unintentionally working with terrorists. There is non stop action in this book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and an extra dose of humor that is mixed perfectly with times of grief and the hard examination of one's own conscience and loyalty. It also highlights Pike's empathy for Guy from his own near fatal trip to his darkest side. Not just Pike but everyone on the Taskforce goes through their own self examination and it is brilliant. A great story and plotline with an entirety new view of our favorite characters. I can't recommend it enough.I don't know how Brad Taylor manages to do it better each time but he does. This time, he's exceptional. If you're not already a fan of his books, you are missing out. It's always worth it, and he's outdone himself with The Forgotten Soldier.

If you like thrillers that mix military with clandestine manhunting, then you will enjoy Taylor's work. This book is a little different from most of his earlier works with several chapters from the point of view of 'Guy' who has lost his brother and a good friend with whom he shared an apartment and was also one of the members of Pike's team. Taylor tackles an interesting 'arc' of 'doing the right thing' which runs from Guy who sets out for revenge but looks for a deeper meaning to LTC Blaine who runs the Omega operations for the Taskforce to the SecState who warns a potential terrorist - all trying to 'do the right thing'. He does this by weaving a very convincing tale with Guy and Pike as he attempts to prevent Guy from falling into the same 'blackness' that Pike experienced when his family was killed. Taylor also tackles the existence of the Taskforce with respect to the operator's who have been trained to think on their own and work outside the law. This is one of Taylor's best. I highly recommend 'The Forgotten Soldier' and Brad Taylor's other books and short stories.

This wonderfully written suspense, thriller and high impact story keeps the reader wanting to not lay the book down until the end. Without a doubt in my mind, it is one of the best stories ever. The sadness at certain points in the book moves one to tears and anger over the mindless pursuit of ideology of extremists in their self righteous pursuit of their twisted goals. This story, while fiction, parallels some of today's real world actions around the Globe and I, for one, can relate to the essence of the tale. A great read and worthy of the 5-Star rating I have given it.Recommend this book for all who love freedom and democracy coupled with the sacrifices of so many unnamed heroes in Government and the military who put their lives on line every day so that freedom does live on for everyone.

let me preface this by telling you that I am only about 100 pages into this one...but this series is fabulous....Pike and Jennifer and the gang who goes along on each mission are fabulous....minimal sex as Pike and Jennifer are NOT lovers but work together to solve terror plots and get the bad guys....somewhat in the vein of the Vince Flynn...Mitch Rapp series....( Kyle did an excellent job completing the last novel after Vince's death by the way) so if you like that genre buy this book AND the others in this series.....fast read and very exciting...I just got this book 2 days ago...

Excellent read! Brad Taylor's novels and short stories always pull you right into his world from the very first paragraph and make it hard toput the book down. The action scenes are breathtaking, the character development is natural and totally believable, and the several threadsin the overall story always come together in the end. One great way to spend the 6 months until the next novel comes out is to re-read allthe novels and short stories. They are all that great! You enjoy the second reading just as much as the first. Read. Them. All. (as Brad Taylormight write)
