It was an easy read and had actionable steps for me to follow when I find myself in a storm. I purchased the kindle version but will probably be purchasing the hard copy and use this as my go to book when I am in a storm or trial to remind me that God is with me.

This book provided the encouragement needed for anyone experiencing tough times. However, it is also for those experiencing good in life also. The focus of every trial and success must be on the Lord. Charles Stanley does an awesome job of helping one to navigate during difficult time. He shares the questions we should ask God, the way to pray, and the way we should think and speak. I used it as my devotional and found that as difficult situations arose, I employed these techniques and had a sense of peace. I recommended the book to two of my friends. A must read for everyone!

This book will hit you upside your head and hopefully wake you up to the the fact that self reliance is a self inflicted sentence of failure. Dr. Stanley methodically points out how God will use hardship and trials to bless us not curse us. He shows how God will wait however long it takes for us to stop relying on ourselves and start relying on him. My suggestion would be to put down your self help motivational books and instead read a book about the best help available, God and his will for your life. This is another excellent book from an excellent teacher and writer and I highly recommend you read it today.

I could not believe how accurate this book is! I only wish I had found it decades ago, I could have saved myself some pitfalls in life. It's like a guide to living once you decipher your own handwriting. The writing might be a little old fashioned, but what it has to say is invaluable.

I read this book in high school when it first came out. Lost my copy and had to find another one. It was a lovely book. Fun, informative, and interesting.

I enjoy learning a variety of ways of handwriting understanding. This one is good and is a good addition to my library. People are surprised how one can tell a lot about them when reading their handwriting.

They were not kidding when they said "JUMBO PRINT"! Guess they use the egg-size grading system where "JUMBO" means MUCH LARGER than "Large." I feel like I am in first grade and should be using Crayolas to fill out these GIGANTIC puzzles.Side from that (shock at how large they are), I think it's time that crossword puzzle publishers start using more common sense in designing these books. I bought this one because I thought it would have "large print" (not GIGANTIC!)--meaning larger than the tiny faint print so common in the cheaper books. I also bought it for the SPIRAL binding, but there was no need for a spiral binding on a book that prints clues on the left side and the puzzles on the right! It means you are constantly flipping back and forth for the current page, or else you are using the book flat, in which case, why do you need spiral binding? Totally illogical. The metal binding drives up the price of the book but offers ZERO benefit.As for the puzzles themselves, they are not all that "easy." What they are is "abbreviated"--meaning, not very many clues or answers in each puzzle. The book also does not specify if the answer is more than one word (which is helpful to know in figuring out the answer). The puzzles themselves ask for obscure as well as very "easy" answers. Examples: Easy: Composer Stravinsky. Trickier/obscure: Pen name of Charles Dickens.Another annoyance I've noticed in recent crossword books purchased: The arrangement of answers in back of book is seemingly haphazard instead of in numerical order. I can't figure out why they do that, but it means I have to keep the answer page open--because if I don't have the answer in 2 or 3 guesses, I check the answer page and correct things and move on.What is nice about the book: the beautiful cover, which is sturdy as well as pretty. And the quality paper.If my recommendations/criticisms were heeded, this book could sell for HALF the price. $12.95 is steep for what you get.Will probably not buy any more books by this publisher unless they attend to these issues/suggestions. :)

The only way I could be more pleased would be if these had Pat Zajak's Clues.Yeah, I am not an accomplished crossword puzzle fanatic. A fanatic, perhaps, but not very good at the puzzles.Still, I do like to try solving them when I'm not writing something. My 96 yr. old Mom is having trouble with her vision, and this crossword book is great for her. She did say the puzzles are not all "easy" though.

I enjoy doing crosswords late at night, I love the spiral bound, easy to handle, and the big print iswonderful!!!!

I wish I had realized that there is one other review here for the Kindle version and it clearly states there are no pictures. If I had realized that I probably wouldn't have purchased this at all. It will be useful for looking up attributes of different stones/crystals but that's it. I'll have to go elsewhere for any help identifying stones.

Great intro to crystals. It's also really nice that it is organized in alphabetical order.The only difficult thing is sometimes I can't remember the name of a crystal and would like to be able to look it up by color but the internet is good for that ;)

I just bought the ebook, and I'm not sure if this book has been revised, or not, but I am going to have to disagree with some of the other reviewers. THIS EBOOK HAS BEAUTIFUL, CLEAR PICTURES OF EACH CRYSTAL DESCRIBED. It contains quite a bit of useful information, and it is perfect for someone who is curious about the metaphysical properties of various crystals and wishes to be able to identify them.

This is my first purchase of the three-part series by Judy Hall. Volume 1 covers over 200 crystals! I can already tell you I'll be purchasing volumes 2 and 3 (each of which cover 200+ MORE crystals/stones, not included in volume 1) I love how each crystal description includes photos to further help in identification. I also appreciate that rarity and sources were included. Information about the spiritual and physical impacts of crystals on the body is in there as well! This book is loaded with a lot of great information and is the perfect quick reference. It's also small and fits easily in my hand. I highly recommend it for beginners.

I have worked with crystals for 25 years and it's been a long process to get better at using them. At first nothing would happen at all.This book goes into so much detail the stone, the colors, the shape, all sorts of stuff. I am so glad I bought it. I think she wrote another book but this one is really important. It goes through the physical & emotional & spiritual impacts of the crystal on the body as well as a ton of other information. If you are looking for a book truly this is it.

I'm a student of Byzantine studies and this book delighted me. I was afraid I was going to have to dig around in a stack of liturgical texts to ferret out what I needed to know abut the impact the liturgies of the time had one the way of life. This wonderful little book did it for me!First, this book is short, yet manages to bring to the page how colorful and impacting of the culture the liturgies of the time were, at least in the city.Second, the book gives broad strokes to the buildings used and how they changed with the liturgical changes. Even the art work inside the churches changed over time, becoming more focused on the images of Saints, and less focused on the play of light along the stone of the building.Third, the author does not bog the reader down with the many tiny changes that took place, sticking instead to the big shifts that took place.If you NEED the tiny details of how the liturgies changed over time, this same author has other books, very detailed books, but I am very happy with this useful little over-view-- I can almost see and hear the stations' liturgies working their way down the major streets, progressing with great pomp toward the Hagia Sophia where eventually they would arrive for the Mass.Recommend for students of Byzantium who do not want to read huge tomes on liturgical history and development. Recommend for home schoolers who want to look at the Church life of this long lived Christian empire. Recommend for anyone who wants to appreciate the historical liturgies of the Church.Seriously wonderful little book.

I am highly interested in this area, but this little volume seemed at once too dense, and at the same time, too short. A longer treatment may have explained some of the concepts or liturgical forms that are treated (what to me seemed) too obscurely, Part of the problem appears to be that the history itself is too-much guesswork, with too many hypotheses and not enough manuscript evidence to really give a clear picture of Eastern liturgical development.

I ordered this text for Byzantine history course I was taking. I was writing a paper concerned with the context of chant in the Byzantine church and modern Greek Orthodox church. It is extremely well written and explained the history and order of worship with great clarity. It was a valuable resource and a wonderful read.

Very informative and eye opening

This is an excellent and well researched historical summary of the the Byzantine Liturgy - ie that of the Eastern Rite and most orthodox churches. The author's erudition shines in this tract. For those who live this liturgy weekly it is very helpful to know the rich history and origins of its modern form. This knowledge will aid in the appreciation of this gift which has been handed down to us Eastern Christians through the centuries. It is a quick read and a captivating one. I would have liked more specific details around many of the hymns and parts of the liturgy, but nonetheless - this is a great work. I would recommend this be in the library of all Eastern Christians.

"The earliest MS (Liturgy of Basil) was written in Coptic in the seventh century, though underlying Greek text seems to have been several centuries earlier. It has been used as the model for several modern liturgical texts, ... This 'Egyptian Basil' is described by Cuming as 'West Syrian in structure, though showing signs of Egyptian influence." E. Yarnolds, SJ, The Study of Liturgy, 1992The Byzantine rite:According to Encyclopaedia Britannica online, The Byzantine rite originated in the Greek city of Antioch, but it was developed and perfected in Byzantium, or Constantinople. The rite was associated primarily with the Great Church of Constantinople and used the Greek language. As Constantinople extended its influence, however, the rite lost its exclusive Greek character and became Byzantine as it was translated into the vernacular of the diverse peoples who adopted it.Antiochene Derivative?There are two original Eastern types of liturgy: that of Alexandria, in which the great Intercession comes before the Consecration, and that of Antioch, in which it follows after the Epiklesis. The Byzantine use in both its Liturgies (of St. Basil and St. John Chrysostom) follows exactly the order of Antioch. The tradition of the Church of Constantinople ascribes the oldest of its two Liturgies to St. Basil the Great (d. 379), Metropolitan of Cæsarea in Cappadocia. The New Advent elaborates, "This is not one of the original parent-rites. It is derived from that of Antioch. Even apart from the external evidence a comparison of the two liturgies will show that Constantinople follows Antioch in the disposition of the parts."St. Basil's Liturgy:At the head of all Eastern rites stand the uses of Antioch and Alexandria. Lesser and later Churches do not invent an entirely new service for themselves, but form their practice on the model of one of these two. Syria, Palestine, and Asia Minor in liturgical matters derive from Antioch, just as Egypt, Abyssinia, and Nubia do from Alexandria. Adrian Fortescue asked, a century ago, "What rite was it that Basil modified and shortened?" And replies unhesitantly, "Certainly it was that used at Cæsarea before his time. And this was a local form of the great Antiochene use, doubtless with many local variations and additions. The relation of St. Basil's Byzantine liturgy to the Coptic anaphora in his name. which was the original, and what are the proofs?b. The liturgy of the pre-sanctified gifts, how to resolve the question of its origin, which the Roman Catholics deny its relation with Pope Gregory, "The apocryphal attribution of the Byzantine Presanctified to Pope Gregory I does not antedate the twelfth century." (The H/C encyclopedia of Catholicism, 1995) Professor Uspensky's compelling study gives its Alexandrine origin, debating that the author was not John Chrysostom but more logically Severus of patriarch of Antioch (Evening Worship, in the orthodox Church, SVS 1985, pp. 143)d. The author's claim of his international recognition, is appreciated. Could he answer the liturgical tradition in imparting solemn blessings during liturgical service, the episcopal candelabras used by Byzantine-rite bishops, in addition to the trikirion which the Coptic Bishops use, add a dikirion in the left hand, based on a Byzantine dogmaticon.

This is, all-around, a pretty good lawn book. However, there are a few cases where the advice is a little outdated given the latest research on the subject.One is the subject of using a mulching mower; research has shown that using a mulching mower does not contribute significantly to thatch buildup. Finely chopped grass clippings from lawn grasses decompose very rapidly. I guess you might get in trouble if you have lots of aggressive weed grasses that grow extremely rapidly, leaving much larger amounts of grass clippings. It is also possible that using a non-mulching mower could get you in trouble; it sounds like Mr. Baker might be using a reel mower, which doesn't pulverize the leaves. The research that I have seen studied the effects of using a mulching mower on lawn grass only, so if you have loads of tall weed grasses, or are using a non-mulching mower, you might have trouble.Another is the subject of aeration. From what I have read, spike aeration (Mr. Baker recommends the use of those spike aerator sandal things) is not very effective. Core aeration, which is admittedly more difficult and expensive, is what gets the best results, and is actually effective at controlling thatch.Here is one of the many pages on these subjects:[...]

My dad shared his books with us while on vacation. After looking thru some of the recipes, my husband, who was not convinced they would work asked me to order him one. I did and he swears they work like a charm. His lawn is thicker and greener than ever before. And he has always been one to pamper his yard.

I actually learned of this book on a website where I was frantically searching for something I could do to resurrect my lawn. Has lots of wonderful ideas very easy to do without having to buy lots of chemicals and such.

My wife and I like to grow a home garden and this book was purchased to help us over come little gardening problems with soil and infestation of insects and other creatures.

I hate to critique anyone's hard work and I'm sure a lot of time and effort went into the production of this book but I have to be honest I am very VERY disappointed. With all the amazing stitches out there (over 200) only seven are presented here in this book and those would include, back stitch, whipped back, variated back, satin, straight , stem, and french knot. ALL 200 flowers within this book are made from these 7 stitches only. Not one flower or leaf was made or created from a basic chain stitch or lazy Daisy stitch, fern, fly or cretan stitch. These are all typical stitches you would see used for leaves or flowers. Not one flower was created from any kind of filler stitches ( which is what I was most excited and anticipated) :( I just expected more of a design option for flowers than ( literally ) satin stitches for 200 flowers. I also must address the fact that all flowers presented are old school at best. Stuff my grandma used to make and put on everything. There's no modern contemporary flowers or motif's to reflect the popular styles of present day design. I only give it 2 stars for the time and effort put into the making of this book and that should be validated. As stated, VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!

What a gem! I can imagine using this for reference making bouquets or adding interest with foliage and flowers to other pieces. What's great is all the patterns are super simple to draw yourself so it's not really necessary to trace each page like a book of patterns. I'd recommend this for any skill level. The DMC color numbers are extremely helpful especially for all the shades of green!
