I was debating whether to give this ebook 5 stars or 4 stars. I think my perfect rating would be 4.5 stars. I went with 5 stars however for the following reasons.PROSsThis book was short but to the point. I didn't get a lot of mumbo jumbo. It delved right into covered calls. Moreover, this book used real world examples. So, you won't see the author trying to sell stock on XYZ company. Rather, the author picked one company (KO) and stuck with KO for the remainder of the book. I liked that.The links that the author provided were very helpful. Even though I am writing this review in August 2015, I was able to go back and see where the author got his numbers from and was able to arrive at the same numbers.In my opinion, the biggest pro to this book, and one of the reasons why I went with the 5 stars instead of the 4, was that the author provided his exact approach to how he picked stocks (I didn't have to purchase that information separately), and he even suggested a few stocks that, at the time of his writing, qualified based on his criteria. I've tried reading a lot of information about covered call writings and either, in those cases, the books or articles dealt with theoretical numbers or even if they dealt with actual numbers, I haven't found many that talks specifically, step-by-step, how they go about selecting the stocks. This book does. It was simple and again to the point and that's what ultimately make me give this a 5 star rating.CONSAlthough I gave this book 5 stars, it is by no means perfect. I really liked the fact that the author picked Coca Cola (KO) and used that throughout the book. However, I thought the content, though on point, was a bit too concise. It would have been awesome if the author picked another company or two, maybe in a different sector, just for comparison.Also, there is little advice on how best to manage a position once entered and even an exit strategy. For the advice that was there, the author doesn't do the best job of explaining the material in the most simplest of languages and so sometimes, a beginner such as myself have to reread the material.In addition, although the author mentioned one broker, there was no real focus on how to select a broker, etc. In other words, this book was very narrowly focused on the covered call strategy (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and not so much about investing overall, risk management, or any of those other important concepts that one should know before investing.Finally, the bonus chapter about how to do covered calls using a small account I thought was a bit more complex and confusing that the actual content in the book.SUMMARYI think the positives vastly outweigh the negatives. That being said, consider the price of the book. I don't think the author expects you to pick up this book, read it today and start investing in covered calls tomorrow. May he does, I don't know. I think anyone interested in covered call writing should do their due diligence first. I can say this much. I have been interested in covered call writing for a few months and never felt like I had the courage or adequate education to just do it. After reading this book, at least I have a starting point on how to pick stocks. Armed with this information along with all the other reading and/or research I've done, I feel as if I am ready to start trading a small position to learn the process.

Provides very basic info - the same type of basic info that you could get by simply googling covered calls. He has an ok writing style and gives good examples but one can read the book in ten minutes. It's that short. It doesn't even have page numbers. It's like he was too embarrassed to document that there's only 20 pages and it's more of an article than a book. Honestly, save your money and just Google covered calls to get the same type of info. I feel this article was misrepresented as a book. This is not a book. I will be throwing this "book" away like I threw away the money I spent on it.Edit- Holy Sh*%. I'm reading the reviews and they are obviously fake and probably paid for by the author. Buyer beware. If you buy and read this, then you will see what I mean. Save your money.

This books is more like a simple article. No rigorous analysis or data or research. On the plus side it takes 20 minutes to read.

This is a good basic introduction to covered calls. I have done covered calls since 1975, but explaining them to friends and relatives always seems to come across as 'complicated' or requiring 'stock market expertise'. This book helps explain the process and the 5 criteria for picking stocks was useful.I always use the concept of an 'annualized rate of return'. (Dividends* + Option Premiums) divided by Cost divided by days till expiration times 365. [* include the dividend only if the x-dividend date is within the option period and the Strike price is above the current quote.]The 'missing' helpful piece of information is that covered calls can be written against 'Market Average Indexes' such as the S&P 500 Index SPY, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DIA, the S&P 100 Index OEF, and the High Dividend DOW Stocks DVY. The dividends are not as good and the Option premiums are a little less then individual stocks, but the Market Index ETFs add the important factor of 'diversification'.

My review is based on the following: (1) this is a 36 page book on covered calls, (2) the goal of the book, and (3) the author's comments regarding what books "not" to buy (i.e. books that don't provide the details regarding how to achieve success). For a short book, the author does a good job of providing a general approach to follow. For many, this will provide plenty of value (well over $2.99). This being said, it isn't realistic to provide a solid amount of "details" in only 36 pages. In sum, this is a short intro to covered calls that provides the reader with an easy to follow approach to generating monthly cash flow. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to test the approach yet.

This book was very easy to understand. The content was straightforward (with examples) on how to sell covered calls. This book is really a small investment in the knowledge needed to get comfortable with selling covered calls. Kudos to Matt for writing something that is understandable.

This is a very small book. In fact, I first wondered if there was even a book inside the UPS envelope as it felt very light. I finished reading it within 45 minutes. Though not bad for absolute beginners, there isn’t much value for people who have basic understanding of options. So if you are a total beginner you sure can read it, but certainly not for anyone who has placed few trades before.

This book is super clear and easy to read for beginners not yet trading options using covered calls or cash secured puts. It should provide the needed confidence to new option traders to get started making money with one of the easiest option strategies there is to use.

William Henry Hudson is an interesting case in that he belongs to two literatures, that of Great Britain and that of Argentina, where he is sometimes referred to as Guillermo Enrique Hudson. All of his writings are in English, yet he has secured for himself a spot in the Argentinean canon. This is nothing short of a miracle. He may not be as highly regarded in Great Britain, and this makes sense when one considers the competition at the time he was producing his works. _Far Away and Long Ago_ represents my first experience of Hudson's work. This book is revered by many Argentineans, and I now count myself as one of them._Far Away and Long Ago_ covers Hudson's life from the first impressions he recalls up to his fifteenth birthday, so we're roughly speaking of the years 1844 to 1859. This is the time of Juan Manuel de Rosas, one of the many turbulent epochs Argentina has experienced. Now, many books have been written about this period, and Argentina's so-called national novel, José Mármol's _Amalia_ (1851) depicts life during those years. What makes _Far Away and Long Ago_ interesting is that this is the perspective of a foreigner. Yes, Hudson was actually born in Argentina, but as he says in this memoir he always referred to England as "home" (something his brother found funny), and he moved there when he was in his early thirties. A reading of _Far Away and Long Ago_ will reveal an interesting, hybrid observer, one that is neither Argentinean nor British, but a combination of both. As an American/Argentinean hybrid, I could relate to his situation (the transnational condition), and I understand it perfectly. One belongs neither here nor there, or one belongs in both places, but in both places one's perspective remains that of an outsider.This memoir is characterized by a nostalgic outlook. To Hudson, boyhood was paradise, and this sense of bliss was heightened by the fact that he spent it in a relatively wild place, a sort of Garden of Eden. It was inevitable that he should develop an interest in nature that often borders on pantheism. The most beautiful passages in _Far Away and Long Ago_ are those in which Hudson describes his close relationship with Nature. This is expected of an author who wrote books titled _Argentine Ornithology_ (1888), _The Naturalist in La Plata_ (1892), and the two-volume _Birds of La Plata_ (1920). In fact, Hudson was so in love with the natural world that in time he ceased to think about the possibility of an afterlife. He devotes quite a few pages of his memoir, by the way, to his struggle with religious concepts, and while I do not agree with his views I found the development fascinating to read.Hudson's descriptions are vivid and unforgettable. Not many people seem to read him today, and he may be read more in translation by Argentineans than in the English-speaking world, but he was definitely a master of the craft of prose. John Galsworthy said of him: "For all living authors--now that Tolstoi has gone--I could least dispense with W. H. Hudson." Hemingway was another admirer, particularly of _The Purple Land_ (1885; Hudson's first and probably most famous book) and of _Far Away and Long Ago_. Like Hemingway, Hudson has a keen eye not only for landscape, but also for detail. His descriptions of the local flora and fauna (especially of birds) are meticulous, minute. The Pampas, that dry, flat region of Argentina (the Argentinean Texas, as I call it), will come alive as you read this book. _Far Away and Long Ago_ is also full of memorable characters, such as the beggar known as "The Hermit," Mr. Trigg the schoolmaster, Margarita the nursery maid, Anjelita [sic, should be Angelita], Don Gregorio Gandara [probably Gándara], Don Evaristo Peñalva, Father O'Keefe, and of course, Hudson's family (I was quite moved by his portrayal of his relationship with his mother), and the many gauchos who philosophized with the young naturalist the way Viejo Vizcacha philosophizes in Argentina's national epic, José Hernández's _Martín Fierro_ and its sequel (1872, 1879).Memorable scenes abound. Hudson relates, for instance, the shock he experienced upon witnessing for the first time the slaughter of cattle, an impression of horror that--quite understandably--never left him. There are also descriptions of the famous fights between gauchos, the ones you may have read about in some pages by Borges. One of my favorite chapters was the one that deals with his first visit to Buenos Aires, the Capital. Even back then, Buenos Aires was quite perplexing, even overwhelming. Hudson paints an interesting portrait of Juan Manuel de Rosas too, and he relates the effects that civil war had on his family. Rosas is a figure that still causes great division among Argentineans. To give an example, in the neighborhood of Villa Urquiza, a subway station was given the name Juan Manuel de Rosas, and this caused quite an uproar: Justo José de Urquiza was Rosas' enemy, the one who defeated him. Hudson does not come to a conclusion regarding Rosas, but he does present several perspectives on this contradictory figure.I enjoyed _Far Away and Long Ago_ (or _Allá lejos y hace tiempo_, as it is known in Argentina) so much that I will continue to read Hudson. I'm specially interested in his novels, of which at least two are regarded as masterpieces: _The Purple Land_, and _Green Mansions_ (1904). Incidentally, his second novel, _A Crystal Age_ (1887), is an early example of dystopian fiction. All of these, and many more of Hudson's books, are now available for free._Far Away and Long Ago_ has been adapted to film at least twice, both times in Argentina. I've seen the 1978 version, directed by Manuel Antin (who also directed _Juan Manuel de Rosas_, and adaptations of Cortázar's short story "Circe" and Güiraldes' gaucho novel _Don Segundo Sombra_). I remember enjoying the film; how faithful it is to the text, I cannot say, as it's been a while since I saw it. This is one of the most interesting books I have read in my long lifetime. It is difficult to imagine more contrasting environments for a boy to be raised in than the Pampas of Argentina and any part of England, and this is the autobiography of an English boy whose family was transplanted to long ago, rural Argentina. This was then an an era when the Argentine flora, fauna, weather and people contrasted sharply with most people's idea of a traditional English way of life.I particularly enjoyed the author's descriptions of Argentine birdlife and of the now vanished Pampas as they then existed. The author's upbringing of total freedom in rural Argentina is in stark contrast to today's totally programed and structured American childhood.

I read about Hudson’s work in a literary piece about ‘great forgotten literature.’ Far Away and Long Ago was the favored of the books. It is his biography of his early years on the pampas south of Buenos Aires.The early and late nineteenth century were years of great isolation in this part of the world. Many Europeans settled in Argentina, which was then one of the two or three richest countries in the world. But those on the pampas were rich, with vast estancias; they survived with smaller, often poor estancias, some times with bizarre, lonely individual surviving through simply iron will; then, the gauchos, with only a bedroll and what would be carried on horseback. The violence and beauty of the landscape is always there, too.Hudson was driven by his interest in birds and, secondly, in other animals and wildlife. His descriptions of birds in their environment, of snakes under the house, of fishermen in Buenos Aires, of violent fights between gauchos: it is all part of an amazing youth. He saw more by ten or twelve years of age than many of us see in an entire life time. I will read on in his story of when of his return to and adult life in England.

This is almost an adventure book, about a boy who was free to do what he loved, wander the large untamed area around his home in Argentina, alone or with a pony, discovering secrets of the birds and other creatures of those vast grasslands. Also, I discovered here that it was Hudson who had written "Green Mansions", a book I read in my grandfather's library when I was young enough to find it strange and disturbing (man's inhumanity). I would recommend this as a very interesting and rather unusual read.

Very well-written memoir from a childhood immigrant to Argentina. A boy describes life in 1840-50 on the Pampas with his family of English middleclass. The surroundings were perfect for exploring on foot and horseback. Lots of wildlife were easily observed and the boy became a naturalist. Gauchos herded cattle and had a wild adventurous culture, and nature was generally benign but sometimes destructive. Much later in life Hudson wrote Green Mansions, which led to a movie of the same name. (the movie had that name; I'm not sure about the book.)

Where the tall Pampas grass grows, you are taken on a voyage seen through the eyes of a young boy growing up in the wild Argentine plain. Images abound, and characters emerge thrilling the reader and inviting you in to explore this rich environment.I especially liked the concept of the rich Spanish cattle baron after 100 years of living in the pampas how there were no longer any vegetable gardens and nice aromatic blossoms, as the livestock of all kinds subsequently destroyed all of the frivolities of life. This book is references in Hemmingway's "Garden of Eden".. Thanks for the heads-up Hem!

This book could literally bring you millions of dollars in value to the sale of your business. It is a very interesting read and written in the best format for busy business owners: quick and to the point. The book is not just theory based: it includes an actual example of each of the "lesson"that it teaches. Furthermore, one of the co-authors has both unsucessfully and succesfully exited from businesses and brings a wealth of knowledge from those experiences. It is well worth the time if you are involved in any asset of buying or selling a business not only from the ownership perspective but as well from the professional side: accounting, finance, legal etc. I have a background in investment bnanking and private equity and have been involved in many transactions from the structuring side as well as the sell side and I still learned a tremendous amount from this book.

Book is fine but probably more useful to sellers than to buyers.

Its a good book, I'd recommend it. I wish he had spent more time talking about the practical how to put an actual value on your business, it is mentioned but very briefly.

Extremely pleased with the content of the book. Part way thru reading this book I sent a copy to our COO and one to the CFO.

Nice stories that didn't illustrate much useful material. Far better and shorter books are out there on the subject.

Excellent book !!! This book was referred to me by a Radiation Oncologist that I consulted with.He told me that even if you choose radical prostatectomy surgery (or some other form of treatment over radiation) that you need to have read this book and have it on your shelf for reference. He is so right. The author, Dr. Peter Scardino, is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The latest edition has a copyright date of 2010, but this book is by no means out-of-date. Treatments aren't accepted until they have a proven track record which typically takes many years, when enough patient data is available to determine how well the treatments work. If you want to know how to deal with prostate cancer, before, during, and after treatments, you need to have read this book in its entirity ... not just the sections relative to the type of treatment you are considering. The more informed you are, the more your mind will be put at ease that you are making the right decision, which will reduce your anxiety and stress level.

Every man who is 50 years or more should learn about the prostate gland. Do not rely solely on your doctor. Take the responsibility of learning what to do. This is vital especially if you are diagnosed with cancer. Prostate cancer ruined a significant part of my life and one of the two doctors I trusted gave me bad advice in this area. I wish I had the correct and complete information before I made some mistakes. Medical malpractice is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

I was understandably upset, frightened and confused when I received my diagnosis (the MD did not give it to me, it, perhaps accidentally, came in a unexpected phone call.)When a co-worker of my nurse-wife talked to me,he recommended this as a book that helped him better understand his own diagnosis some years earlierI found it invaluable in trying to understand my diagnosis. It is straight forward, easy to read, full of technical/medical information but stated in such a way (with great diagrams) the lay person can easily grasp it.Dr. Peter doesn't have an axe to grind as to which road to take, he carefully explains all the options and encourages the reader to do as much investigation as he can before making any decisions.It is great to have an expert surgeon discuss all aspects of Prostate Cancer and then leave the choices up to the patient.While this is just one of more than 4 books I have read, I believe it is the best, most thorough volumn of them all and I highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and their significant other as well..

Wow..What a book!...or should I say what a BIBLE! Ironically, I just finished reading Dr Scardino's incredibly readable,comprehensive, informative and candid book about all things prostate and prostate cancer just a few days before I'm headed in to see him about my own prostate issues. To say, after reading it, that I feel confident I am putting my trust in the right hands is an understatement. I give this "definitive" work on the subject matter the highest rating I'm allowed to give. Five stars? You bet!

This book was used to educate my family about the diagnosis of prostate cancer, its varied treatments, what to expect, etc. So far, this book in 100% in all of its information, recommendations and information. It is truly educating and helpful. Thank you. I am not sure what my husband and I would have done had we not been prepared with such concise and correct information.

Extensive work on all prostate problems and treatments, including cancer BPH and more. This is the updated edition but field is moving so fast another update would be welcome Still, a strong, and very readable reference.

This is a great book for learning everything you need to know about your prostate. For anyone having been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it explains the cancer grading and classification terms so that you can better understand the extent of your cancer diagnosis. Finally, since it was recently updated, it has good information relating to the most current treatment options to help you make an informed decision as to what to do.

A must read for all those diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thing your Dr never told you and much more. Learned so so much reading this.

Personally , I found in this book a great writer who uses a second persona narrator to give the story a special turn. A book to read through the symbolism and metaphors. It shows the reality of countries where women are mistreated because different reasons, religion, culture. It is important to visualize a new tendency when the boy moved to Mogadiscio. A story told by dreams and symbols. Worth reading I believe Nuruddin Farah is a great story teller

This is a story told in the dreamlike style of someone so obsessed with a particular narrative that he tells the same tale over and over, dozens of times, from different angles and in different ways. Because of this book, Nurrudin Farah has my vote for inclusion in the small list of superb living writers. I recommend Maps to every reader out there. Give him a chance. You'll come away changed.

This 1986 book was the choice of the international book club at my local bookstore. Basically, it is about a search for identity. Set in Somalia and Ethiopia, the orphan Askar's mother dies at his birth and he is brought up by a servant woman named Misra. There's definitely a love bond between them but these ties are strained and then broken as he grows up, especially when he is sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Mogadiscio.The story includes the thoughts of the young man, dream sequences and the complex politics of the time and the place. Interpersonal relationships are prominent, especially that between Askar and Misra as well as Askar and his aunt and uncle who are quite educated and introduce him to a more cosmopolitan world.As war rages its horrors intensify the question surfaces as to whether or not Misra is a traitor or just another pawn in the ongoing war and Askar matures has to deal with several questions about her loyalty to his country. The truth is never confronted directly. It is up to the reader to make his or her own judgments.There is no doubt that this is a fine book that introduced me to a culture I knew little or nothing about. However, the many dream sequences just add to the confusion as to what actually happened. I soon grew impatient with this book and even though I can respect it and appreciate the unique viewpoint the author brought to it, I found it difficult to follow the plot and much too sad and depressing for my taste.

Had to read this book for class and I must say I was completely stunned by it. Given the slow beginning and middle, I just assumed this was a typical cerebral novel but if you like complex, complicated characters and the impossible challenge of securing integrity in a prejudiced system, you may enjoy this book.

This edition is well crafted and durable, and looks and feels like a well-made book.The content shows even more care. "Maps" is the story of Askar, a Somalian orphan born in the Ogaden, a territory under dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia. When war breaks out in earnest, Askar's foster-mother, Misra, sends him to live with his maternal uncle and his wife in Mogadiscio. Ultimately, Askar must self-identify as he grows amidst a nation whose very map changes around him.Farah's writing is simple and elegant, and each chapter is told from a different perspective. All in all, very worth the read.

I could not put Maps down. I highly recommend it.

Great book but Kindle version is loaded with "typos" although I doubt anyone typed them. I notice this problem a lot with Kindle books. Needs to be fixed. Electronic version should be as clean as the printed version.

This is a really good book. A reviewer said it may be the best submarine book since 'Hunt for Red October', and that is probably true.The story follows the ballistic submarine Kentucky as it receives an order to launch a nuclear strike and proceeds to travel to its launch area. The submarine has been provided deceptive information by sources on both sides of the ocean, and it is pursued across the ocean by the entire US Pacific Fleet in an effort to abort the launch.Along the way we meet numerous characters, on the Kentucky as well as on other Navy vessels, and various people in the US and other governments. There is exactly the right amount of character development and background information, and there are many well developed sub-plots. The prose is professionally written and easy to read, and the story flows at a proper pace without getting bogged down in useless sidelines. There is plenty of technical information, causing you to believe the story was written by someone who actually knows what he's talking about. The story is salted with many plot twists, and the conclusion is not what you expect. Once you get going, it is hard to put this book down.A few nitpicks: I would like to think that certain intelligence agencies would not in real life choose courses of action depicted in this book (but they might). I imagine Iran would be slightly more upset than they were at the end of the book. And perhaps the author got his inspiration for this story while watching the movie 'Crimson Tide'. But in truth this is a well written story that makes you wonder what could happen (or maybe happens more than we know) in the real world. Read it - you'll be glad you did.

I am very claustrophobic. I can't think of too much worse than being submerged in a submarine for months (or even days) at a time. But I like to read good submarine books. And I think this one was great.The author is a retired Navy Commander who spent over 20 years on submarines in his career so there is definitely a sense of realism in this story.The story is centered around a conspiracy to bomb Iran. Computers are hacked, people are bribed, and one of the U.S. nuclear submarines is sent bogus messages and codes to launch their weapons upon Iran. After they receive the orders, they go silent and the U.S. government must find a way to stop this disaster from happening.There's a long list of characters in the book but I focused more on their job titles and didn't worry about remembering all their names and that worked fine for me.I've seen this favorably compared to THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and I agree. I enjoyed both equally.I highly recommend this tale to those that like military thrillers, action thrillers, books about ocean travel in general or specifically submarines. I don't read too many of these type books but if you do, I believe the author has written four more similar books.

The USS Kentucky is a Trident ballistic missile submarine carrying nuclear warheads on patrol in the Pacific Ocean when it receives a launch order in retaliation to a nuclear attack on Washington D.C. When the administration becomes aware of the strike order terminations orders are sent numerous times but there is no response from the submarine. Who sent the launch order? Will the USS Kentucky carry out its mission? If so, will it be successful? These are the questions to be answered in this superb military/thriller and while they require a certain degree of suspension of disbelief you should to so ( this is fiction after all) and one suspenseful story.The book was written by Rick Campbell, a retired Navy Commander, and is full of terrific actions scenes as well as personal stories about some of the main characters. involved in the story. The author does not get the reader bogged down in to much technical jargon and use of acronyms as so many books of this genre do The action is easy to follow and there is alot the reader will learn about submarines and the decisons that must be made in combat situations. I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to the sequel entitled Empire Rising.
