Boris Megorsky born in Leningrad, USSR, in 1978. Lives in St. Petersburg, Russia with his beloved family. Made his Ph.D. in Political Science, works in Human Resources but his true passion has always been military history. As a scholar he specializes in everyday life of the Russian army, its uniforms, tactics and siege warfare of the Great Northern war period. Author of three books – “Peter the Great’s Revanche” (2016) and “Sieges and Assaults of the Great Northern war” (2017) in Russian and “Russian Forces of the Great Northern War” (2018) with Helion & Company. As a re-enactor he is member and “sergeant” of “Preobrazhensky Life Guard regiment, 1709” - Russia’s leading reenactment society of the early 1700s. His passion in miniatures make him paying great attention to details both in research and in re-constructions, be it reenactors kit or graphical illustration consulted by him. The 1-star reviewers seem piqued by the fact that as a young economics student, Sowell was a Marxist. But as time went on, the evidence led him elsewhere. He began to differentiate between the stated intentions behind government programs and their actual results. It wasn't a pretty sight.Sowell's emphasis seems to be on what works as opposed to what doesn't. And as an economist, he knows that there are no "solutions" to social ills; there are only tradeoffs. He's not a "conservative" (he's never endorsed a political philosophy that I'm aware of) as much as a scientist with an extraordinary gift for clear writing.

In "The Vision of the Anointed," conservative author Thomas Sowell connects many of the social pathologies of recent decades with the failed vision that led to them. This vision of the anointed, as Sowell defines it, is the prevailing vision in society today, even though it disallows feedback from reality and is not based on logic or evidence, but on emotion and self-congratulation.Sowell contrasts the vision of the anointed, which always searches for sweeping solutions, with the tragic vision espoused by conservatives today, which realizes that there are always trade-offs in the real world. Liberals seek to build utopias, but conservatives realize that implementing one policy can have serious side effects elsewhere in society and that wisdom involves knowing that a catch-all solution is not available for virtually any serious social problem. The author describes typical scenarios that ensue when the vision of the anointed is implemented and the real world responds by not cooperating.Liberals, though, almost never admit their failures, and Sowell details how the Left misuses statistics to invite false inferences as to the results of liberal programs. The author dissects fallacies the anointed use to dismiss evidence of the failure of their vision, and notes that the Left commonly substitutes ridicule and attacks on motives instead of real, logical arguments.Sowell also describes some of what he calls the "crusades" of the anointed and the effect that the vision of the anointed on the American judicial system and the all-important rule of law, as well as offering his opinion as to why the anointed are so invested in their vision. Even though "The Vision of the Anointed" was written two decades ago, it is even more timely today than it was in the mid-Nineties and is an indispensable book for conservatives, especially young conservatives.

$13 is a not a bargain price for a Kindle book. I love Kindle, but I'm very unhappy with my reading experience through the first 50 pages or so. The conversion of the text from paper to Kindle has resulted in a volume that has enough typos -- primarily commas that are now periods, but also words (e.g., "mute" instead of "route") -- that it really has diminished my enjoyment of an otherwise superb book by a favorite octogenarian author.Someone at Amazon or at Hachette needs to address how this could have happened and should do so promptly. This book is actually great fun, as long as you understand what it is and is not. It is a book about Calgary, and is full of interesting information and curious facts. It is not a guide book. An example of a strange and curious fact: in 1920 auto polo was introduced in the Calgary Stampede as "the climax of dangerous sports". No kidding.

This was not a very good guide but it was the only one I could find anywhere. So something is better than nothing. Think if you really need it before buying.

I was expecting that there might be a lot of pics and maps from its cover. I know I should have not chosen the book from its cover but it was very disappointing. There was a lot oh information but little of it was useful.

Each has many photographs and a unique slant, written by a regular traveler just like you. Its hard to get realistic and unbiased information about traveling in Central America. People tend to think the region is dangerous, politically volatile, and overrun by drug cartels. Although the region does have its fair share of problems, it also has its fair share of natural and cultural wonders. This book pushes past the stereotypes with real, first hand accounts of traveling in Central America. Don't be deterred, buy this book and find inspiration to travel to this wonderful region.

Love Central America and especially loved the photos and stories from Guatemala and Panama. Panama is definitely more than just a hat and Guatemala really really rocks, particularly for those who love colorful digital masterpieces at the faux click of a shutter.

I am still somewhat old fashioned when it comes to reading actual books, but I love having my Kindle when traveling, and I love the fact that I can easily access lots of reading material about my upcoming destinations. GoNomad is known for their quality articles, so this is a great place to start if you want some quicker reads about wherever you're heading or if you'd like to be inspired for your future travel plans!

Nice set but colorless! I got this for my friends' daughter and was shocked to see the pictures inside the book were nothing but red, black and white! I had all these individual books as a kid and they were very colorful (as most kids' books should be...) I was disappointed but it was too close to Christmas to get anything else. I know they were going to a "vintage" look that would appeal to adults, but at the end of the day this is for children, and should look the way it was meant to. But it's nice to have the actual sweet 6 stories and they're good like most of the Clifford books.

Having a handful of stories in one book alone is a great thing. My only complaint is that it's a hardcover, so it's relatively heavy, making it a tad difficult to be able to cuddle and read without the book jamming into one of our body parts. Other than that, the pictures were crisp and simplistic, my 4 year old loves it.

My son, age 3, received this book a few weeks ago and has insisted that we read it to him every day since. He loves the pictures and he thinks the stories are very funny. Even my older daughters who are 7 and 9 enjoy reading the stories. This book has been a great addition to our kids' library.Update 2015.My son is now 5, and this book is still one of his favorite books. He recites the stories by heart, but insists on me reading this book to him almost every night. The quality of the book is excellent, because despite this much use, it looks like new.

I was disappointed in this collection of Clifford stories. I bought them because my son LOVES Clifford right now and we'd been checking every Clifford book out of the library every week. However, this collection does not really do the original books justice.First off, this collection only uses a few muted colors and does NOT have all the colors in the original books. The original books are quite colorful, so this was disappointing and I find my son just doesn't like to look at this much.Second, in an effort which I assume was made to condense the original books into this collection, multiple pages are included on one page. This means they shrunk the images into small half pages and there are more words on the page. It makes it difficult to follow the story and results in a busy design that is tough for little kids to focus on.If I could do it again, I'd buy the individual books that are my son's favorite instead.

I'm a first-time mom, and we looovvveee Clifford books! I love that these are the original stories by Mr. Bridwell, and that each story is longer than most toddler books I've found. The pictures are appropriate, as are the words; when my toddler is reading to me, and not the other way around, she reads the words, and sounds out any that don't roll off her tongue. These books are wholesome, fun, and have positive life lessons or applications. It offers wonderful childhood (and Momhood) memories reading together! The hardcover makes for a super long-lasting product--hopefully I will read this very book to my grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren some day! If this is a gift for a child who enjoys stories, I believe you'll meet with a happy child upon their receipt of it. Happy joyous reading!

These are the classics stories for Clifford the very first ones written. So this book looks like a vintage book and I loved that! I also enjoyed the fact they have a section to tell about the author in the beginning of this book. If you are looking for the brightly colored new Clifford stories this is not the book. If you want the original stories for your child, this is perfect. All my kids loved this book!

Got this for my three year old son who lives dogs. He really like it, but definitely not one of his favorites. The pictures are more like sketches with not much color. But a good buy for Clifford fans.

For Clifford fans, this is a good collection. It's hard to find these but the anniversary year is bringing them back in popularity.

She is a board member of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality, as well as the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists. She is a founding member of the Gender and Family Network of New York City, a group for service providers interested in the health of gender non-conforming children and adolescents.

I am a medical student and I recommend this book all the time to doctors and healthcare providers who want to serve trans patients better. It doesn't make a lot of assumptions about background knowledge but it still has depth and captures a lot of the diversity of trans experiences. A lot of my trans friends love it and get something out of reading it, even though they obviously already have a knowledge base. I especially feel comfortable recommending it because it is written entirely by trans people.The intended audience is trans people, but I actually think that makes it more valuable to read as a provider - to read the health and wellness sections from the POV of trans patients. It still includes a lot of definitions and side notes in little boxes for people who are not familiar with the topic.The format of the book is discrete essays by topic, and it is really too much to read the whole book all at once. The format is helpful because you can easily reference a given topic or assign a reasonable length reading for a class.

Just received my pre-order copy today and so far has exceeded my expectation tremendously! Jennifer Boylan's preface is both articulate and moving. This book is a bible of the transgender experience. It covers health, biology, psychology, history and politics and includes hundreds of voices of both professional and laypersons and many cultures that encompass the transgender experience. I am a physician who cares for transgender patients and Mom of a beautiful transgender daughter. I would recommend this book as a reference for any person is trans or who has an interest in trans issues for any reason. It should be in all health, psychology and sociology libraries. Frankly, I so wish this book had been published many years ago when my own daughter came out to me. It is a book whose time has come and is a powerful voice for this amazing community. Invaluable Compendium of information. Finally the transgender tipping point has been reached! Items like this were not to be found 35 years ago. Now, both trans and non trans people have an excellent resource for information on transition, its implications and how best to achieve the desired goal of "being at one" with yourself. True it can be a bit choppy but I think in order to "catch all" since it seems to try to include everyone. Over all its a MOUNTAIN of information. May I suggest, Letters For My Sisters with a delightful forward by Lynn Conway. Have you ever felt yourself to be other than what your body is? It can be a living hell. This book will help free you from that prison!

AMAZING BOOK... More complete than anything I've seen before.Whether you are considering transition, or are already transitioning this book is for you. Also great for friends and family, lots of information to help you support your loved ones. All medical and mental health providers should have this book. Whether already have trans* patients or clients you will find this book an invaluable resource.Awesome illustrations; Katie Diamond is one of my favorite illustrators and their work in this book is nothing short of amazing. Lots of great writings from well-known providers and trans* activists.This book is very well written and accessible to all who can read English. This is of course my opinion, so I may be overstating.This book is a must have for anyone interested in transgender people and issues.

A comprehensive introduction to the different aspects of being a trans person. The book explores many facets of beings trans, including race, ethnicity, and culture and how these effect trans people as well as trans people in different religious traditions. There are also sections on coming out, transitioning, medical aspects like hormones and surgery, and much more. TBTS also goes beyond the simple idea of trans man and trans woman and discusses being gender queer and gender questioning and affirms those who do not identify as a specific gender. Besides being a great resource for those of us who are trans, this would make a wonderful textbook for a gender study class and would also be a tremendous resource for those serving or interacting with members of the trans community e.g., doctors, social workers, therapists, police officers, and others. This is a great book!

If I could offer only one book on transgender issues to a trans person, this would be it. Think of it as "Our Bodies, Ourselves" for the gender adventurer. Broken down into thoughtful topics ranging from legal issues to race, medical choices to personal identity, these folks have brought together an amazing lineup of experts to share their knowledge thoroughly. This is an excellent resource for anyone looking to better understand the experiences of trans and gender expansive individuals. What I love most about it is that it reflects upon a topic or issue, and then has excerpts from individual with varying and sometimes opposing viewpoints. Instead of a book written "about" trans individuals by a cis person, it is written BY trans individuals. I am always learning something new when I open this book.

I bought it for a transgender group I do in a prison setting. I find it helpful for my learning curve and some of the women in the group love the book. Others have mixed reactions. All in all a great resource
