A truly spectacular and inspiring read. Roy is intellectually brave, as always, but the book swimmers with authenticity--she has actually walked with the comrades, and by the end you will feel as if you have, too...

Walking with the Comrades Ms. Roy describes the desperate fight in the forests of India by very large groups of people trying to save their way of life and their environment. The exploitative forces of international capitalism have come to India where, as we see in the U.S. and elsewhere around the globe, profit and greed rule. While people in the U.S. may think the fight of the so-called Maoists in India has nothing to do with them, they need to think again. The battleground between international corporations and the people is everywhere. It's also a fight to save our planet from moving into runaway climate change that will change life as we know it today. Ms. Roy describes the hardships and suffering of ordinary people pushed to the edge of existence by powerful corporate/government forces attempting to exploit every last resource of the forest and land in India. What we see today in the U.S. with massive exploitation of our environment in coal mining, fracking operations, tar sands mining in Alberta, may create an environment here where ordinary people will need to fight back as they are currently in central India. The ominous message of Ms. Roy's book, "Walking with the Comrades" is that a low level war against the corporate/government forces may be in our future here in North America. A must read book, beautifully written, for those who care about justice.

There is a fascinating struggle underway in India between it's past and present. We need to ask ourselves whether the price for this so called development is worth paying. What Ms. Roy presents in this book is an alternative way of life that is struggling for survival in modern India. You don't hear about this in the mainstream media. Indians are living in polluted, over crowded and chaotic cities and are being told that this is development. It is time to reassess this model of development.

By hanging with these courageous people and understanding the necessity of supporting them, Roy, had to confront her own views on the violence / non-violence question. Her challenges to herself become challenges to us, her readers, because of her facility with her craft and willingness to expose herself. Arundhati Roy is a gift to the living.

Although much of the information in Comrades was in Roy's "Capitalism a Ghost Story" it was exceptional because of her experience with the Maoist and their supporters. Nowhere have I seen anything like this story. It exposes the superficiality of stories such as the (horrible) rapes on buses.It was as if I was reading about the First Nations of the Americas (as they were being slaughtered and driven off the land which they needed to survive) in real time. The historical data about former (Naxalite etc) struggles was essential. Roy is courageous in her writing and in her travels with the rebels. She has reinforced in me the fact that I, by my own lifestyle contribute to the murderous international consumer capitalist insanity....and therefore remain an armchair socialist and a hypocrite.

This is an amazing account of a people's struggle against enormous odds. It is very important to know about them and what they are going through and to raise concerns. Without someone as astute and courageous as Arundhati Roy we might not know about them

Terrific.. loved reading it. In India Roy is demonized as someone who is anti development which is why I wanted to read. Amazed to see how much work and dedication has gone behind this work. I strongly recommend.

I don't think this book was proof read. It seems like it was written with talk to text and never checked. Words like "toupee" appear where "to pay" is meant. "eggs" instead of "ads".All of the crazy font, and typos could easily be forgiven if the information was completly solid. It's not... and yet it is. There are pieces of good information in here, but the are jumbled and barely touched on or developed. For the complete beginner looking to start there may be value here, even if it is just in the motivation.This book will show you how to become a storefront window cleaner who cleans some residential homes, not really show you the ropes to building a window cleaning business but rather a window cleaning job. Being your own boss isn't so bad, it can just be a hard road.I wish the author well, as like I said this book does make you like him. He is a hustler. I just can't recommend this book.

Came across Keith on YouTube and listened to what he had to say. Took a chance and invested in his methods and purchase his audio book. This book has help me and my business immensely. Coming from a guy who knew nothing about business let alone a window cleaning business this was the absolute best thing I did when starting my business. It was my bible. I now run a fully insured successful window cleaning business based out of Long Island NY. That is growing each month. This book to me was absolutely a huge part of the reason my business is what it is today. Couldn't thank Keith enough for taking the time to put up his YouTube content and for writing this book. Any new guys that are getting into the window cleaning world trust me. This will be the best $20 you could spend on your future.

The book has some good information but I really wish it could have gone more in depth into a couple areas. It also had quite a bit of errors, needed more editing. That being said, I recommend this for someone looking to learn the basics of window cleaning or a small business but this book is nothing ground breaking. It is however the first of its kind, so I give Keith Kalfas a lot of credit.

This book was great. To be honest, I haven't finished a whole book in years. I start one get half way through then start another. I read the Window Cleaning Blueprint front to back and will probably read and reference it moving forward as I pursue a career in window cleaning. The revised book retains its' original 1937 copyright through decades of subsequent printings and remains the gold standard of American Christian doctrine Sunday School textbooks. While Conner was southern Baptist, the doctrine of his book is simple and expansive enough to be compatible with any of the neo-American denominations that descended from Anglicanism, including other Baptists, Congregationalists, Methodists and even Pentecostals.Conner's strength is in his ability to weave natural law, Christian spiritual experiences, with revealed law, biblical narratives, so that the reader sees the Bible for what it is, a compendium of human interactions with the Divine, that each of us can fully experience today. Of note to collectors, this book has been in print for almost eighty years and most printings merely identify the 1937 copyright rather than the printing. For those who purchase for substance, the newest paperbacks are more suitable given condition and ease of use.

The publication info is misleading. I thought that I was buying a fairly recent title, one from 1998. Instead, this title is from 1937! The publisher should have included a description and included the publication year for this (in all likelihood) PUBLIC DOMAIN title. If this was a print book, I would have returned it.

I was afraid this would be too rudimentary. It starts off that way but it is a nice, straightforward approach. Not a lot of overly technical explanations but it does not gloss over any of the technical topics - they are just explained with normal shop talk. Anyone looking to make their own gears or learn a bit more about gears would probably benefit from this. Focuses a bit on the home shop type person and machines they would have access to when it comes to the 'how to make' section - ie dividing head on a mill or even a lathe. If you already know how to make gears, probably not worth it. Does not cover hobbing or shaping. Does cover bevel gears.

This is the most informative book on gear cutting that I have ever read. Even though the "Machinists' Handbook" covers gears in more precise mathematical detail, this book was written to educate the hobby or amateur machinist on how to both design and make several types of gears (spur, worm, bevel). The author educates the reader on gear theory, and then on how to make the gears on inexpensive hobby lathes/mills. In addition, he covers how to make gear cutters inexpensively, and use them to make the gears. The language he uses is simple and concise, yet he covers gear theory enough so that the reader has advanced knowledge of the fundamentals necessary to design thier own gears and gear trains.I have no negative criticism to offer of this book - it was exactly what I was looking for, and my money was well spent.

The text is accompanied buy clear, excellent photos and drawings.Mr Law takes a very complex subject and by starting at the basics, he builds upon each concept and clearly makes the geometry and execution of gears and gear cutting a subject that a complete novice like me can comprehend.As someone who is teaching himself the machining trade, I find this book invaluable.Thank you Mr Law for sharing your skills and knowledge with us!

Good information on manual processes to producing both gears and cutters to make them. Book does not cover helical gears, only Spur, worm and Bevel.

This book actually surprised me, it is literally brimming over with solid and detailed information. When opening the package I thought "Hmm, this looks pretty thin." But in that thin package is one of the most detailed yet easy to follow tutorials I have read. The text is practical, concise, and hands-on oriented. The first part of the text covers gear theory in a adult way, no over simplified grade school explanations, you won't feel like you're being talked down to. The same treatment is used for the gear cutting theory portion, and then practical portion about cutting and jig building. It has excellent pictures and diagrams, that add to the text instead of just being pretty to look at. Too often How-to books feel like wasted money to me. They provide little information that could not be read off of Wikipedia or a patched together tutorial. Or they are fluff and pictures with little "meat and potatos" information. Not this book. If you want to make your own gears, I am confident that this is the book for you. If I wanted to learn more on the subject, I would have to go to an advanced upper level college text, which this book has laid a stable foundation for doing if I need to go that route.

Like many of you, I got the book because I have a gear problem, and also I have nearly enough equipment and skills to fabricate a solution. I got here by following up a link on a blog, seeking more technical info. Although this book makes a good backgrounder, the years have rendered the application side a bit obsolete.Since the book was first published, CNC technology has migrated from commercial shops down the the hobbyist level, displacing a lot of the equipment shown into the vintage category. For instance Law barely mentions helical design and fab, unless you want to say a worm gear is helical. This common feature would be difficult or impossible for vintage equipment, but trivial for (4th axis) CNC equipment available to even a budget oriented hobbyist.Second, the book shows a method or two for fabricating you own tools, to avoid high costs of procurement. Several internet blogs have detailed more sophisticated approaches, rendering Law's approach "quaint". Also since the book was published, the cost of ready-made tools has dropped significantly and are widely available mail-order from China, et al.

If you want to know (and by know, I mean really understand at a fundamental level), how involute (modern) and cycloid (old clockwork) gears work and can be made, this is the book for you. It's pretty amazing how much technical data has been packed into this tiny book in a easily understood format. Highly recommended.

It starts with the background and progresses into the practical. Has techniques for making spur and bevel gears. It includes the plans for the Eureka form relieving tool, which can be used for making other tools besides gear cutting tools. Also goes into several techniques for making your own gear cutting tools, besides the one that the Eureka is needed for.
