Matthew Morris has worked with the Oracle database since 1996 when he worked in the RDBMS support team for Oracle Support Services. Employed by Oracle for over eleven years in support and development positions, Matthew was an early adopter of the Oracle Certified Professional program. He was one of the first one hundred Oracle Certified Database Administrators (version 7.3) and was also in the first hundred to become an Oracle Certified Forms Developer. In the years since, he has upgraded his Database Administrator certification for releases 8i, 9i, 10G and 11G, and added the Application Express Expert and the Oracle SQL Expert certifications. Outside of Oracle, he has CompTIA certifications in Linux+ and Security+. Matthew is an experienced Database Administrator and PL/SQL developer and has been creating Web applications with Oracle Application Express since the early days of its release. He is currently employed as a Database Engineer with Computer Sciences Corporation developing enterprise applications.

I thought the book bigger, with more pages, but it doesn't matter for me.

The book is good.

If you saw my earlier review - I WAS WRONGI bought this and another book. The other book covered about 45 topics included a lot of analytic function stuff. Well, after taking the test I know - the book basically covered the areas and the hard-core analytic stuff was not there.Some books have a CD of questions and a lot of other stuff. This does not. It goes through the topics on the Oracle website re subject areas and specifics.So this should be *ONE OF* the references you need to prepare - not the only one

Absolutely, wonderful book for children and adults. I first checked this book out at the library. After reading the first chapter, I was hooked and ordered a hard copy and purchased a digital copy. This book gives practical tools to motivate the novice and experienced individual. It leaves you begging for more. The illustrations are enticing and it's fun reading it. It simplifies Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga with concrete examples and tools. I am a therapist and welcome this as an informative resource for my private and personal practice.

I love this book! I use it to help introduce mindfulness, breathing techniques, and easy yoga poses into my clinical practice. The descriptions and illustrations are wonderful and the interventions are creative and useful for adults and kiddos. Using interventions from this book has been well received especially when working with kiddos with attention, sensory, or anxiety related issues. I’ve loaned this book to colleagues and several have purchased it because they love it too!

I liked it but my children did not care much for it. It may be better received by young girls, I don’t know.

Book is an excellent introduction to mindfulness--for all ages..Simple language and easy instructions make it a must for any age interested in beginning a mindfulness practice

I have been following Homeschooling for College Credit/Jennifer Cook-DeRosa Facebook page and blog for several years. I have the utmost respect for the homeschooling community, however, my 4 children are attending or graduated from public school. I applied the concepts and strategies to help them maximize credits earned while in high school through AP exams, and more importantly with CLEP exams in the "young adult" phase of 17-20 to increase their success and minimize my cost. Eldest just won a Phi Theta Kappa scholarship for 3 classes at Harvard University Extension School, after earning her associates degree with honors from our local community college (75% earned by AP/CLEP exams). The concepts present can help ALL students--the high achieving and motivated , the self directed learners, those who struggle with learning challenges, those interested in a trade/skill rather than a 4 year university and those considering military options. The research and information is broad and deep explaining the simple and the complex. Even though I was familiar with many of the concepts already from the blog and FB page, I could barely put the book down when it arrived. You do NOT need to be homeschooling for high school credit to benefit from this book--the price is well worth it for any parent in understanding the parts of college that no other "college" book bothers to explain. I have a shelf full of "how to get into college" type of books---they are more alike than different. This book is unique--contains well curated and organized information that is hard to find on your own-- easily worth 10x the price! Bargain at under $20.

To give a bit of background for my review, I am a college professor at a small-liberal arts university. In addition, i am a homeschooling dad. My three oldest children all earned college credit at home before "going to college." In fact, one of my children earned an associates degree at the age of 17. I believe that I have a good grasp of earning college credit in a homeschool program.I just read Homeschooling for College Credit from cover to cover. This book is filled with information on how college credit can be earned INEXPENSIVELY at home. Moreover, parents don't need to have a college degree to guide their children towards earning credit. Even veteran homeschoolers will learn a few things - Jen's research is extremely extensive. For instance, I did not know about NYU's language exams.Moreover, the price of the book is extremely reasonable. For a little under $16, you will find tips that will save you thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars in tuition costs.

I read the first edition of the book and now the second. The second is way better than the first and completely overloaded with si much wonderful information! This will be revolutionary for the homeschool mom who is, like me, teaching a child-student who is in high school, nearing adulthood, and who wants to go to college.If you think the only way for your child-student to get college credit is to go to college or to go to a high school early college or concurrent enrollment class, you are wrong. There are many ways to earn college credit. This book will show you what all of those are, and will break it down so that you can see which ones are more sure ways and which are less likely ways to get credit at the college your offspring will attend. This will teach you how to communicate with college staff so that you can get the correct answers more quickly.This book will help you very much in helping your child-student in getting ready for, knowing what to expect in, and beginning college with you as their guidance counselor. We can to this, moms! This book will help so many homeschool moms, it will be amazing. This book will change what others think about homeschooling and will help people to see homeschooling as a very viable way to do high school, prepare for college, and maybe get some college credit in homeschooling!

Jennifer has a servant’s heart and tirelessly provides this information free on her blog and FB page. But the book is a gem because it provides the information in an organized manner all in one spot. I found this book to be VERY informative! MOST people do not realize that you can test out of most of what is required in the first two years of college. People think it is too good to be true. I KNOW that its very real, but yet still not widely known. There may be some homeschool parents that are aware, but I doubt they have the many resources that this book provides. The internet does give us access to a lot of information, but you have to know where to start and what to ask. Again, many people do not have a clue. I have to strongly disagree with the two star review. I'm not sure what the reader was looking for as it sounds like she already had all the answers. For the rest of us this book is a true gem!!I would also like to add that although this is aimed toward those in high school who are homeschooled, it is great information for anyone wanting to earn a degree faster and less expensive than paying retail. A lot of people still do not realize that higher education is a BUSINESS and that it is VERY possible to earn a degree without thousand of dollars of debt.

This book is totally worth the money. She has great information and I now follow her on Facebook!!! I am so grateful for finding her and this information!

If I had known the information in this book I would have completed my own college degree decades earlier. With the help of this author, my daughter finished her Associates degree while still in high school (with a 4.0). This is the perfect guide to alternative methods of credit and earning a college degree.If you are looking for a great guide to earning college credit, or assistance building a home-school road map to save thousands of dollars on higher education for your child this is the book for you...highly recommended!

A fascinating look at how a music icon (Bob Dylan) influenced the mind and work of an icon of modern spiriutality (Thomas Merton). As a big fan of both these two men I enjoyed the intersection of their stories and all the insights and ah-ha moments it provoked for me. Hudson writes with gracefulness and economy, which made the book compulsively readable. An absolute delight, which caused me to dig out my Dylan CDs and re-read some of my favorite Merton books!

This book is a unique take of the 1960s, and not an approach that would occur to many. Being both a Merton fan and a Dylan fan, I enjoyed learning about Merton's interest in Dylan. This is not to say that they met, or that Dylan seemed even aware of Merton during the time period. Still, there were some parallels in the lives of both men. The book focused mostly on Merton. It is not a rock and roll history by any means. But it certainly highlights the impact that Dylan's music and poetry had ( and has) on unlikely people. It is extremely well written and flows beautifully. For those of us who lived the 60s and for those who are interested in that time, it is a truly unique and meaningful book.

This is quite simply a tour de force. Hudson manages to expose the poetic confluence between two very different men who never met, but whose writings are reflective of the restless world of the 60's. This is a deep and loving look at the tormented spiritual journey of Merton's final years, revealed in his writings and relationships, showing how influential were the songs and persona of Dylan, the rebel troubadour. Dylan, however, remains a bit more of an enigma - as usual.

Having heard references to Thomas Merton in religious settings and having learned that Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for literature, Bob Hudson's New book, "The Monk's Record Player" seemed a pleasurable way to satisfy my curiosity about both men.I was quickly drawn in to Hudson's story of Merton's forbidden love affair and learned that Merton was fascinated by Dylan at that time. I hadn't appreciated the sound of Dylan's voice and have never been able to understand lyrics in any song so I looked up the lyrics that were part of Hudson's story. I now have a new appreciation of Dylan.Hudson's portrayal of Merton caused me to order "The Seven Story Mountain", the first of many of Merton's books that I plan to read.

I an interesting take on the connection with Dylan and Merton. It reminds me that our present state is a accumulation of connections throughout our life. We come from a very eclectic history which gives each of us an unique experience of life.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this book based solely on the title. What I got was wonderful insight into the complex life of Thomas Merton and the impact Bob Dylan's music had in shaping aspects of his life. Hudson's writing style made it a difficult book to put down, once started I kept wanting more and was sorry when it ended.

A book about a Jewish songwriter, a Catholic monk, by a Protestant and published by a Protestant publisher. If like me, you’re a fan of Merton and Dylan, this book is for you, which means I don’t think it will make the best-seller list. Nonetheless, it is an enjoyable account of the influence Dylan had on Merton. I brought it to a clergy book group and they shook their heads in wonder, and most had no interest whatsoever…too bad, because it is well worth reading. Despite having read a lot by and about these two men, I learned a lot about both. I’d like to know if Dylan has ever read Merton, which David Hudson apparently hasn’t been able to learn. I also wonder if he has read Joan Baez’s autobiography, which gives a very different account of her meeting with Merton. Anyhow, this was a delightful read!

Book: I got the book and CDs to listen to in my car. The author, a long time resident of the region, research this subject well and present a good history of the economic and political development of Latin America since the early 1800's. The book stops at 2008 so it does not have the recent events with Hugo Chavez. It would be interesting to see the second edition. Overall, it is a good primer for persons with a new interest in the region.CD: Well produced with an excellent bilingual reader.

I enjoyed how Michael showed the challenges that South American countries face and how it was important to the U.S. until the end of the Cold War and than became the "Forgotten Continent".

I love this book, especially for anyone who is looking to learn more about economics and with a background knowledge of latin history.

I believe the book was a great overview of the entire.continent. Where it lacked for me was in the area of the us Mexico border, I felt it could have expanded this issue a little.more. Great read prior to.any trip down south.

It is very sad that we in Latin America have to learn more about the history and current affairs of our continent from foreign writers. Our own literature is full on panegirists of the left that even confronted with the sham that is Cuba and its totalitarian regime that has failed in providing a better life for its masses still try to sell us the idea that revolution and marxism is the way to go for our development. Living in Ecuador, currently under the XXI Century Socialist regime of Correa and having everyday to hear his endless tirades and propaganda and knowing that most of what he sells is untrue and that populism is probably the main cause of our backwardness this book was very refreshing to me.You have to look at the good examples such as Chile and even Colombia or Peru are currently developing their nations based on a democratic and open market model of development. We are capable people in this continent, we are passionate and hard workers and with a capable state apparatus we can achieve a good life and development but we are also gullible and still expect a miracle from an iluminated leader that magically transforms our societies and can achieve development with social equity but without sacrifices. This explains how Chavez, Correa, Morales, Ortega, the Kirchner couple have achieved power through their badly executed and corrupt social investment and redistribution schemes and that is why potentially rich countries such as Venezuela and Argentina are declining instead of moving forward.I hope every educated person in Latin America have the opportunity of reading this book so at least they can glimpse the truth from other perspective. For me it was an eye oppener and I live this reality every day.
