I bought this to fix dinners for my mom after she was released from rehab. The recipes so far have been pretty tasteless but ok. The main problem with this cookbook is the layout. There is no Table of Contents listing individual recipes and no Index. It is very difficult to use because of this.

The loose-leaf, wire-bound is the most user friendly-format. I have heard complaints that these recipes are high in sugar and thus, it is not really a diabetic cookbook. This book is for my niece who is a type 1 diabetic. She has lived with diabetes her whole life so she will know how to adjusts the recipes for her needs. She has never used a 'slow cooker' so these recipes will give her the basics. The "FIX-IT AND FORGET-IT" format is the best. I always need new ideas about how to season correctly and how to try recipes for the first time without fear of a disaster. The book lies open on the counter and has become the standard for the modern cookbook.

I was diagnosed several months ago with diabetes and although it is a scary, upsetting thing to hear, the first thing I did was buy new cookbooks. It is a lifestyle change and you have to learn to cook differently. There are so many great recipes I use from this book I will have to only pick a few to mention. The Teriyaki burgers, the Turkey and dressing and the banana loaf. I love them all. And this is one of the cookbooks that helped dispel the misconception I had that I could never eat tasty food again. Its just not true. The fact that it is a crockpot slow cook recipe book really appealed to me too. Let's face it, we all lead busy lives and I love a recipe that I can fix it and forget it for 5 or 6 hours. Phyllis Pellman Good has more than one cookbook. I want to encourage you to check out the others too. This would be a must have for any diabetic regardless of when you were diagnosed. It does not just have meat dishes, it has everything from breads to desserts. You will not regret buying it, for it is more than worth the money.

Not too impressed. Most of the recipes are diabetic friendly, but a lot of them have a WAY higher carbohydrate content than what I’m looking for. Carbs shoot my blood sugar levels way too high!

Very helpful cookbook for a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. I was having a hard time imagining what I could cook in my crockpot now. This gave me some great ideas. There are some basic tips in the book as well. I spent a lot of time going thru the book and marking the ones I wanted to try with post it notes. I am glad I picked this book!

This author knows what she is talking about. Very credible. So many recipes explained in plain English, nutritional values plainly delineated.Now, if she would only put this same information out for the electric pressure cooker crowd. I bought this book intending to make some of the recipes myself, but my wife grabbed the book first and started cooking. Tried five or six recipes so far and every one was absolutely delicious. Very happy.

Bought as a gift for my mom to cook for my newly-diagnosed diabetic step-dad. She said it is an awesome and non-complicated recipe book. She loved it! My step-dad, however, said "It looks like it is full of healthy stuff...no fun at all!" (He doesn't get it yet, but he will :)

"How to Catch A Fish" is an 11 1/4 inch by 8 3/4 inch 30 page children's picture book. Every other page has a full color and full page washed out oil painting in the Impressionist style. Each illustration conveys the misty, foamy, salty, foggy feelings associated with fishing around the world.The book contains thirteen multi-cultural poems to describe how fishing is conducted in various locations around the world. In this particular poem we learn that the Japanese clamp a metal collar on a cormorant and attach a leash to it. They paddle up the Nagara River at night time. The fishermen carry metal baskets of flickering fire on their flat bottomed boats which draw sweetfish near. Overboard the leashed cormorants dive and seize the fish but can't swallow them because they are too big. So the fishermen remove the fish from the cormorant's mouths.These poems give the reader a wonderful glimpse of fishing from around the world. The reader develops an appreciation for other cultures as they enjoy reading or listening to these poems read aloud. Most of the poetry is rhyming and easy to read. I believe most children above the age of nine could read these poems with understanding and all children except the very young, could appreciate the oral reading of the poems. I gave this book a four star rating because the impressionistic illustrations are not that appealing to me. I prefer more realistic illustrations. However, the book is an excellent children's book that will create interest in and appreciation of poetry. It is also a wonderful tool to teach appreciation of other cultures.

Two quick points. This is a book of 176 pages and less than 10 pages depict, in most cases non-explicitly, sexual activity. Boy, has that upset and seriously warped the sensibilities of some reviewers here.Second: This is not a work of fiction by H.P. Lovecraft, so to decry that it departs from the Man from Providence's writings is simply bizarre. Moore and Burrows are using the concepts and mythos of Lovecraft, but telling their own unique story. They are not attempting an adaptation of any existing material. You can love it and be chilled by it, as I was, but to critique it because it differs from Lovecraft is absurd, and in my opinion, an unfair judgement.This is a dark and seriously twisted story but I never thought it was in any way exploitative or a cynical cash grab, as some here state.

Neonomicon is a graphic novel. I don’t read many graphic novels –I make up my own pictures in my mind to match the words in non-graphic fiction. But I loved comic books when I was a kid and I am aware and appreciative of what a well crafted graphic novel can do. Like this one., Which is excellent. It’s exceedingly well scripted. (Plot and dialogue in a graphic novel are constrained –constricted may be better- by the limit on pages and the large amount of space taken up in the pictures.) The illustrations are superb, realistic, heavy on line but not ignoring shading and contour, and the coloring, dark but bursting into explosions of color in the more psychedelic interludes, is equally effective. Moore wrote story and dialogue, Burrows illustrated, someone named Juanmar colored the drawings. They all deserve praise.The story is a modernization of Lovecraft’s Chulthu mythos. An FBI agent is staking out a neighborhood where a series of brutal ghastly murders have taken place. The killer had no history of violence and only speaks now in a jumble of alien words. He’s hopelessly psychotic. But there are two other recent mass murders and in both cases, killers with same past record –no history of violence—and the same present behavior. There is no apparent connection among the three. The FBI agent is an expert in anomaly theory. He looks for anomalies and tries to fit them into patterns. The only connection seems to be a mysterious drug called aklo and a possible dealer, a man named Johnny Carcosa who hangs out at the Club Zothique. The band there is the Ulthar Cats. They’re beyond punk or Goth, singing songs that starts in freeform descriptions of violence and swerve part way through a (very long) song into a string of alien names which we know (because we’ve read Lovecraft) but the agent doesn’t are names of entities in the Chulthu myth. No one knows how old Johnny is and he wears a veil over the front of his face, covering it from the bridge of his nose down. The agent digs deeper, finds that a similar string of killings and mutilations occurred in the same place in the 1920s. (Think Lovecraft’s time.) He makes contact with Johnny Carcosa and arranges to buy some aklo. Soon, the agent is locked in a cell. He’s killed several people and he too speaks an alien tongue. A new team of agents is sent in to investigate, man and woman, and the story accelerates in tempo and in horror. It ends in an explosion of color and horrific images, with a dire fate in store for all of us.It’s a good recreation of Lovecraft’s twisted world, with one addition. The sexuality that is hinted at but never allowed to enter Lovecraft’s asexual tales is explicit, in text and drawings, in this disturbing story. It works and it’s not intruded gratuitously but if you’re squeamish about such things, you may want to take a pass on this book.

The Courtyard: When federal agent Aldo Sax goes deep undercover to find a mysterious drug called Aklo, he gets snared in net of Lovecraftian craziness with Johnny Carcosa at the center.Aside from being peppered with racial slurs, I thought this was a pretty good tale. Aldo Sax encounters cosmic horrors and goes off the rails. Moore seeded the text with plenty of Lovecraftian references, like The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Horror at Red Hook, Zothique (actually a Clark Ashton Smith), and Randolph Carter.I like the direction Moore is going with this one.The Neonomicon: After visiting Aldo Sax at the sanitarium, Agents Lamper and Brears pick up where he left off and head to Salem.There was some sick stuff in this, much more extreme than Lovecraft but still true to the spirit of the mythos. I had a feeling things would go the way they did with Brears. This one was definitely not for the squeamish.Moore's take on the Cthulhu mythos in Neonomicon makes me anxious to read his next Lovecraftian offering, Providence.

Writer Alan Moore and artist Jacen Burrows present a harrowing tale inspired by the writings of HP Lovecraft. This edition contains "The Courtyard" and also "Neonomicon" so you get the whole story up to this point. There's another volume called "Providence" that hasn't been released yet. In "The Courtyard" and "Neonomicon" Moore and Burrows accentuate the horror by setting it in very prosaic circumstances; a detective investigating a drug called Aklo and in "Neonomicon" a pair of FBI agents picking up the trail of the same investigations. Needless to say that what these seekers of truth discover is far beyond what they expected. HP Lovecraft wrote stories in which Man and his existence with it's aspirations and horrors were utterly irrelevant in the cosmic scheme of things. His stories offered little, if any, hope of redemption or salvation. Lovecraft was not author of happy or even hopeful endings. In "Neonomicon" Alan Moore and Jacen Burrows follow the same themes of pervasive evil, ancient forces of unimaginable horror and doomed seekers of knowledge. If you enjoyed "In The Mouth Of Madness" or "Dagon" then "Neonomicon" is certainly for you. If you like your horror to contain some hope for a better tomorrow or at the very least a chance for a hopeful ending I'd say this comic isn't for you. If like me you're both a fan of Lovecraft and of works inspired by his writings then you'll find "Neonomicon" to be a good read but not exactly mindless escapism either.

About the Author

Baird T. Spalding, whose name became legend in metaphysical circles during the first half of the 20th century, played an important part in introducing to the Western world knowledge of the Masters, who are assisting and guiding the destiny of mankind. Born in England, at age four he went to India. At age seventeen he finished the University and went to California where he stayed two years. He then traveled to Heidelberg, Germany and studied for eight years and then returned to California for post-graduate work in Archaeology at Berkeley and Stanford. After years of working with publisher Douglas DeVorss to write and promote the Life & Teaching series, Spalding died in 1953 in Arizona.

I've only read volumes 1 & 2 and I loved every minute of it. The events described are amazing. It's especially encouraging to know that these events took place in 1894 and were witnessed AND recorded by a group of scientists. These were serious men who were on a mission to investigate rumors and legends surrounding a group of mystics who are ready to share their knowledge and skills with those who are open to some really fantastic feats. I'm currently studying this area of interest under the tutelage of a man who has been practicing for over 45 years and has met some of the mystics mentioned in these books and more. It's truly astounding.

If you are drawn to these series of books, that is enough. Something is different, even if you don't "get it" you got it! These books invite you to suspend every limiting belief and wether you believe that what takes place in the pages and stories shared...what if?! It matters not! Truth is Truth. Love Is. May you be inspired as I have over the 20+ years I have read and reread these books, each time for the first time, as I Am a different person each time I sit and read the inherent wisdom and Truths in these pages.

All the books in the series reveal something new for me. The authenticity of the author has often been in question in certain circles along with many others that have written similar material.For me, Spalding tells his story his way. There seem to be some overlap in events and information with other writers of the same timeframe, Yogananda in particular. Although both men came from very different backgrounds, they both kept their feet on the ground but their eye on eternity.

I gave this book to the students in my A Course of Love Class as an opening into imagining a living life rather than just a survival based life.

These series of books have been around for almost 100 years. I have read them several times, beginning 40 years ago. They have helped me to understand the limitlessness of our potential. Now we read it aloud together as a group. Ten folks of varying ages and it works for everyone. A true blessing.

I am grateful for the many reminders in this book. We are awesome beings with amazing infinite potentialities within us as our True nature. It is so inspiring to remember that the Great Teachers are just like us -- only they remember and they are AWAKE. My intention is to be fully AWAKE too.:-)

Rather expensive however. I have had and given away several of the entire physical sets of this fascinating set of metaphysical books. I just think Kindle has priced it too high for the set. It is electronic and so all the manufacturing steps are eliminated, so this is just too expensive. I will wait and see if the price is adjusted for the other books, and if not, will simply keep my bound books... this time.

I have had read many many books on spiritual developement but this set of six books are on going tutorial of what its all about .All my questions answered . I have had my mind stretched.my belief strengthend.YOu can feel the truth of his experiences .WHat a lucky lucky man to have met the masters and gone through all those experiences five times five out five star rating funny that as five is the number of god !!!!!
